Stanley Von Medvey has always sought to find the overlap between the worlds of art and science. Both his parents were artists and raised him to draw, but he has had a lifelong passion for science since his father bought him a telescope at the age of 6. In high school, he worked with NASA to design small autonomous payloads for the space shuttle, and flew two experiments aboard the Shuttle Endeavor and Atlantis. He pursued Astrophysics at the University of Chicago, but the dominant artistic trait in his genes took over, and eventually he transferred to Chapman University, realizing he could serve science, learning, and his love of adventure as a film maker and storyteller. After making several short films at Chapman, and winning awards for his visual effects work, he returned to Chicago where he spent 4 years developing himself as a concept artist in the video game industry, shipping scifi and fantasy titles for the XBox 360 and Playstation 3. This would give him the visual foundation needed for his future endeavors. Having maintained strong ties with NASA and colleagues in the aerospace community throughout his career, he spearheaded the production of a viral promotional video for the National Space Society's 2010 International Space Development Conference. Stanley has found a balance between entertainment and education in his work. In the summer of 2010 he joined forces with lifelong friend and writer/director Tom Ptasinski to create L5, drawing on these experiences and his network to make an authentic and compelling hard science fiction property.
